Job Description

Introduction
MSF is an independent medical humanitarian organization providing assistance to people affected by conflicts, epidemics, and disasters without discrimination.

Position: WATSAN Manager (Non-Medical Hazardous Waste Management)
Location: Juba, South Sudan with regular field visits
Contract: 9 months fixed-term with potential extension
Level: IRFFG Level 9

Objective

Supporting sustainable waste management through implementation of an integrated approach for non-medical hazardous waste management, with technical support and quality assurance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Task 1 – Storage and Inventory

  • Foster environmentally responsible waste handling across operational centers
  • Monitor hazardous waste generation (batteries, refrigerants, oils, e-waste, expired drugs)
  • Coordinate with waste service providers for collection and disposal
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare monthly reports

Task 2 - Technical Advice

  • Conduct staff training on waste segregation and safety
  • Ensure adequate waste segregation through field visits
  • Monitor new regulations and best practices
  • Hold weekly status meetings with project manager
  • Identify recycling and disposal solutions

Task 3 - Innovation Testing

  • Propose innovative waste management solutions
  • Identify suitable project locations for testing
  • Spearhead collaborative testing initiatives
  • Report findings and feasibility for scale-up
  • Address any system damage from testing

Qualifications Required

  • Academic background in Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 6 months hands-on field emergency experience
  • WHS professional experience in humanitarian settings
  • Essential: English; Desirable: Arabic, Juba Arabic, local languages

Desirable Experience

Water supply, excreta disposal, wastewater management, vector control, or dead bodies management in multiple contexts (conflicts, natural disasters, camps)
