Job Description

Position Summary

Habitat for Humanity International seeks a Youth and Volunteer Programs Specialist (Africa) to develop and strengthen volunteer programs across the Africa Area Office. Reporting to the Fundraising and Partnership Director with matrix supervision by the Volunteer and Institutional Engagement Division, the role provides management, coordination, and guidance for volunteer programs aligned to Habitat's mission and program framework.

Global Village Program Strategic Coordination

  • Manage and coordinate national organizations participating in the Global Village, including program administration, training, budget planning, and risk management
  • Support the end-to-end volunteer journey, including Global Village resource creation and updates, with cross-functional partners
  • Ensure close collaboration between the Habitat Africa network and regional/global teams to support Global Village growth
  • Coordinate and provide emergency support to volunteer teams and country programs during crises
  • Support additional volunteer engagement opportunities with relevant departments and ensure duty of care standards

Program Management (Youth and Local Volunteering)

  • Lead the volunteer program in Africa by setting targets and forecasting trends with national organizations
  • Support implementation of Habitat's youth engagement strategy in collaboration with regional and global teams
  • Consult across departments to elevate youth volunteerism and leverage national organization initiatives
  • Integrate local volunteering and youth volunteering into Habitat programs and projects
  • Build a funding pipeline for youth and national volunteering initiatives and expand external partnerships

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Review volunteer evaluations and feedback, compile reports, and recommend improvements
  • Ensure implementation of minimum standards and relevant policies for volunteer engagement
  • Promote awareness of Global Village and volunteer program outcomes and impact

Capacity Development and Partnerships

  • Design and deliver training on volunteer management, program development, fundraising, and events
  • Provide guidance to strengthen the network's capacity in volunteer program management
  • Facilitate sustainable partnerships that drive innovation and growth through volunteering
  • Build tools, resources, and knowledge in volunteer program management

Other Specialized Support

  • Consolidate qualitative and quantitative reporting and manage volunteer data, including ROI analysis
  • Liaise with global and Area Office teams on volunteer engagement and next-generation programming
  • Support Resource Development in cultivating volunteer interest and skills for fundraising channels
  • Support youth initiatives and engagements across the Africa region

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in development, political science, or a related field
  • Experience in the NGO sector and international development
  • Minimum 5 years of volunteer mobilization and management and/or volunteer programming in peace and development settings

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Affinity and interest in volunteering, advocacy, and active citizenship
  • Overview of formal and informal volunteer engagement organizations, networks, and programs, preferably in Africa
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Deep knowledge of program operations with multiple stakeholders in different time zones
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player across departments
  • Open and agile mindset to drive change and improvements
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online systems
  • Strong people skills and cross-cultural communication
  • Training and mentoring skills
  • Understanding of the Africa region and cultural sensitivity issues

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of another foreign language spoken in the region
